Last weekend at the Franciacorta Circuit took place the Italian Grand Prix of the "NASCAR Whelen Euro Series" Championship, round 3 and 4 of the 2018 season.

After a complex but growing start at the debut in the Nascar series during the first event in Valencia, with a temporary car, the Swiss Team Race Art Technology has worked hard to prepare the new Ford Mustang landed in Canton Ticino under the partnership with Blu Motorsport.

Unfortunately, immediately during the free practice on Friday but also during Saturday morning qualifying there were a lot of technical problems on the car that prevented the two drivers Mauro Trione (Elite 1) and Francesco Parli (Elite 2) to run all the expected circuit laps and then fine-tune the ideal race setup. So a lot of work in the pit-box of the # 31 car that the riders then tried to translate to the track at their best. Saturday's 3rd round was marked by bad luck with an early forced withdrawal for Trione due to problems with a tire after an exceptional recovery of 14 positions compared to the start; for Parli instead a loss of several useful positions due to a collision. On Sunday in round 4 a completely different situation with an exciting race in Elite 1 for Trione, which showed great skill towards opponents worthy of note, unfortunately penalized in the second phase by a contact; in Elite 2 an excellent podium conquered by Parli in the "Legend" category, after a race conducted in an exemplary and intelligent way.

To support the Team and the two Swiss drivers, a great influx of visitors to Franciacorta: from family to friends, to all the sponsors who arrived from Switzerland and from all over Italy, welcomed in the dedicated hospitality set up in the paddock and lined up in grid alongside the # 31 car to transmit their warmth and support to the whole team that has given its best to give them a unique and exciting weekend.

The Italian GP was dominated in Elite 1 in both days by the Israeli Alon Day, which obtained the poker of the 2018 season on Chevrolet SS of Caal Racing; while in the Elite 2 the Brazilian Felipe Rabello wins the round 3, first of the season and third in his career, while winning his first victory in Nascar in round 4 the team-mate of PK Carsport, the Belgian Guillaume Dumarey.

So Mauro Trione at the end of the event: "An exciting weekend with the home race and all our fans and sponsors present. I worked hard despite the fact that we did not have the chance to fine-tune the car in the free practice session due to problems technicians who made us lose practically the whole day. The consequence was a departure from lane 29. In Race 1 I reassembled up to P15 but then I was forced to retire due to problems with a tire. In Race 2 I reassembled until at P16, wrestling with competitors like Bobby Labonte (NASCAR USA Champion, Hall of Fame) but a contact made me lose positions. At the end I go out of this competition aware that we have the possibility to do well, with adequate tests we will improve both the style of guide and the car to perform at the level of expectations”.

"In general it was a nice race weekend - commented Francesco Parli - full of exciting contents. On Friday, unfortunately, we paid the price of the tests not made and a series of problems related to the car. Unlucky qualifications with two red flags on the laps and lots of traffic. Race 1 started well in crescendo unfortunately frustrated by a misjudgment that led to a contact and consequent unclear drive-trought anyway. This made me lose almost ten positions. Race 2 Sunday completed intelligently with several positions recovered and a good category podium that always raises morale”.

Next round of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series 2018 season at Brands Hatch (UK) on 9-10 June for the fifth and sixth rounds.
