The first edition of the "Rallye Terre du Haut Var" took place on June 29-30, the third round of the 2019 France Gravel Rally Championship, organized by the ASA Grasse in the Provençal town of Draguignan and its surroundings, with special stages set on the tracks of the military territory of the Canjuers, usually used as a training camp for the mens of the French army's tank cars.
A very tough race that put the competitors to the test and even more the cars on the special dirt roads known in the 80s for the "Rally 1000 Piste" but unknown to all the crews until the start of the race with the delivery of the road book on the starting podium. From here a single round of reconnaissance with rally cars and then the official start of the race.
A super adventure as well as great achievement for our driver Carlo Rivoira, flanked at the notes from the co-driver Camilla Gallese, who wanted to treat yourself after 12 years of stop from racing, a unique and compelling race with the car of the moment, the Skoda Fabia R5 in the Swiss official colors.
Overall 120 timed kilometers divided into two legs and ten very difficult, fast and technical special stages, with continuous course changes in each section and increasingly complicated routes when the special were repeated.
Thus the conquest of the 25th place overall after two intense and "hot" days of competition, on the car wheeled Dmack Racing Italia , is therefore an absolute victory; the only drawback of the whole race is two punctures in an even more demanding final given the conditions of the ground where it was now practically impossible not to drill.
These are the words of Carlo Rivoira at the end of this experience: “It was a tough race held on the tracks of the military territory of the Canjuers; fund with a thousand different characteristics, very fast special stages alternated with very driven and technical sections, everything put a strain on the car which proved to be incredibly reliable and indestructible, in fact apart from a couple of punctures it has not had the slightest problem. A special thanks to all the Race Art Technology / Skoda Swiss Motorsport Team for the exceptional weekend at the end of June: Paola, Fabio, Osvaldo and Rocco all fantastic for how they worked at the assistance and in the logistics; a special thanks to Gaetano who, after every stage, thanks to telemetry corrected me, advised and instructed me to make the most of all the features of this Skoda "airplane"! An important consideration also for Fabrizio, DMack technician, who provided us with really performing tires, where the very bumpy course that put the technology of these covers to the test. Finally, but extremely important, thanks to my co-driver Camilla, really "tough" and very good who accompanied me in this adventure, we have immediately created a perfect feeling that allowed us to achieve this great result. I hope in the future to be able to compete in other races with the Team that has shown great skill and professional seriousness.
